Chen — hero grid for mains

Chen is what the game calls the hero in every client; Russian-speaking players say “Чен” (or “чэн”). The site's dictionary has no English nickname for Chen — people just type the name.

The hero's line in Valve's list reads: “Converts creeps to his cause, building an army”.

The site's “Choose a hero” window finds Chen by either “Chen” or “Чен”.

A ranged Intelligence hero — one of 34 — Chen gets 3 of 3 on Valve's complexity scale, one of only 13 heroes at the top level.

Valve's roles for Chen, rated 1 to 3: Support ●●○, Pusher ●●○; none reaches the full three dots.

By attributes puts Chen in the “INTELLIGENCE” (19th of 34) block; By complexity — in the “HARD” (3rd of 13) band.

Two positions for Chen: hard support (5) first, soft support (4) second, both with a score of 0.5 or more (1 and 0.55). The site's position scores (best = 1) are carry 0 · mid 0.16 · offlane 0 · soft support 0.55 · hard support 1, so Pick by stats puts the hero into the “5 · HARD SUPPORT” and “4 · SUPPORT” rows only.

Where the scores come from: in 163 parsed OpenDota matches (data as of 23 Sept 2026) Chen went safe lane 52% of the time, mid 28% and offlane 19%. Median gold per minute is 327 — pure support gold on the site's scale (360 or less); experience per minute is 446. There are few matches with parsed lanes for Chen, so the positions are rough.

The rows of Classic: positions 1–5 hold the 18 most played heroes each and Chen is not among them; there are two free slots per row, so drop the hero into “5 · HARD SUPPORT” yourself.

Chen in other layouts: not in Meta by stats (ten heroes per position); not in Two columns (44 cores and 44 supports).

With the button at the top, the MAINS block of Mains + situational starts with Chen, then Enchantress, Shadow Shaman and Ancient Apparition, because all three share the same main position (hard support), the same attribute and ranged attack.

Then it is “Download grid” and hero_grid_config.json into Steam\userdata\<number>\570\remote\cfg while Dota is closed; load your current file in the “Your grid is ready” window and your old grids stay (install guide).

Win rate 44.5% for Chen (125th of 127) over 20,788 games in the OpenDota snapshot of 23 Sept 2026; by games played that is 127th.

Results climb with rank, from 43.2% at Herald–Crusader to 47.2% at Ancient–Divine. Chen's share of games is 39% above its average at Herald and 18% below at Ancient.

Chen in the snapshot's pro matches: 1 pick, 1 win, 0 bans. Turbo: 21,006 games at 40.9%, worse than in ranked brackets.

Main in a skin covers arcanas and personas only, and Chen has none there yet; to draw the hero anyway, upload any art to Picture to dots. Among the heroes with skins that are also played as hard support, the closest to Chen are Crystal Maiden, Vengeful Spirit and Ogre Magi — their dot drawings are ready for a hard support grid.
