Sniper — hero grid for mains

Every Dota client, Russian included, shows the name Sniper. There is no common English short name for Sniper in the site's dictionary. On Russian servers you will hear “Снайпер” (or “снайп”).

The hero's line in Valve's list reads: “Picks off his enemies from afar”.

In the editor's hero picker, typing “Sniper” or “Снайпер” brings up Sniper.

A ranged Agility hero — one of 35 — Sniper gets 1 of 3 on Valve's complexity scale, one of the 55 easiest heroes.

Role dots from Valve: Carry ●●●, Nuker ●○○; full marks for Carry.

In the ready layouts that means the “AGILITY” (12th of 35) block of By attributes and the “EASY” (42nd of 55) band of By complexity. Sniper is also in Beginner: easy heroes — column “2 · MID”, 2nd of 9.

One position only for Sniper: mid (2), with the next best score at just 0.17. All five scores (best = 1): carry 0.17 · mid 1 · offlane 0.06 · soft support 0 · hard support 0 — which is why the editor's Auto-pick places Sniper in the “2 · MID” row and nowhere else.

Lanes over 1,422 parsed OpenDota matches as of 23 Sept 2026: safe 15%, mid 77%, off 7%. Median GPM 555, XPM 717 — core-level gold on the site's scale (540 and up).

In Classic: positions 1–5 Sniper sits in the “2 · MID” row, 1st portrait of 18.

In the OpenDota snapshot of 23 Sept 2026 Sniper shows up in 850,649 games (4th most played of 127) and wins 49.8% of them (60th).

Results drop with rank by 2.5 points: 50.8% at Herald–Crusader against 48.3% at Ancient–Divine. Players pick Sniper more than usual at Herald (+28%) and less at Divine (−46%).

Sniper in the snapshot's pro matches: 3 picks, 1 win, 1 ban. Turbo: 594,990 games at 52.7%, noticeably better than in ranked brackets.
