Pudge — hero grid for mains

Pudge is what the game calls the hero in every client; Russian-speaking players say “Пудж” (or “пуджик”). There is no common English short name for Pudge in the site's dictionary.

The hero's line in Valve's list reads: “Hooks and pulls enemies towards him”.

The site's “Choose a hero” window finds Pudge by either “Pudge” or “Пудж”.

A melee Strength hero — one of 36 — Pudge gets 2 of 3 on Valve's complexity scale.

Role dots from Valve: Disabler ●●○, Durable ●●○, Initiator ●●○, Nuker ●○○ — no role at the full three.

In the ready layouts that means the “STRENGTH” (3rd of 36) block of By attributes and the “MEDIUM” (36th of 59) band of By complexity.

Pudge is played in two positions — soft support (4) and hard support (5) — like 38 other heroes with two scores of 0.5 or more; the main one is soft support. All five scores (best = 1): carry 0.02 · mid 0.19 · offlane 0.32 · soft support 1 · hard support 0.57 — which is why the editor's Auto-pick places Pudge in the “4 · SUPPORT” and “5 · HARD SUPPORT” rows and nowhere else.

Lanes over 2,510 parsed OpenDota matches as of 23 Sept 2026: safe 27%, mid 18%, off 55%. Median GPM 388, XPM 608 — between support (360) and core (540), a supportness of 0.76 by the site's formula.

In Classic: positions 1–5 Pudge sits in the “4 · SUPPORT” row, 2nd portrait of 18.

The “Make a grid with Pudge” button opens Mains + situational with Pudge first in the MAINS block, followed by Omniknight, Phoenix and Largo — all three share the same main position (soft support) and the same attribute.

In the OpenDota snapshot of 23 Sept 2026 Pudge shows up in 1,180,501 games (1st most played of 127) and wins 51.5% of them (31st).

Rank barely changes the picture: 52.4% at Herald–Crusader and 50.6% at Ancient–Divine. Players pick Pudge more than usual at Archon (+5%) and less at Herald (−15%).

Pudge in the snapshot's pro matches: 1 pick, 1 win, 1 ban. Turbo: 778,614 games at 50.2%, about the same as in ranked brackets.
